Lewiston Offers Free Sand for Seniors This Winter
Staff Report / Lewinstonlocal.org
Lewiston Public Works is launching its "Sand For Seniors" program starting Monday, October 21, and running until Tuesday, November 12. This initiative allows Lewiston residents aged 65 and older to request a free 5-gallon bucket of sand, which will be delivered to them to help ensure safe sidewalks and driveways during winter.
To qualify for the program, seniors must reside in an owner-occupied building with three units or fewer. Each eligible household is permitted to receive one bucket per season. The sand buckets will be delivered by Public Works personnel in marked City trucks, and recipients are encouraged to keep their buckets for next year’s use.
To request a bucket, seniors should call the Lewiston Public Works at 207-513-3003 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
This program is made possible with the help of Sam's Italians, which donated the buckets for this community effort.
